Hyderabad, August 14, 2019 (PPI-OT): Officials at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and those of occupied Kashmir witnessed an embarrassing moment when students from the occupied territory spurned an invite for an Eid lunch.
Quoting from newspapers highlighting the condition of Kashmiri people in the occupied Kashmir valley, Hadif Nisar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association in the UoH, said that they could not accept any offer from the occupation authorities or Indian government to indulge in festivities while their families suffered.
The Jammu and Kashmir Governor had reportedly deputed a liaison officer who had the permission to spend up to Rs 1 lakh to host a lunch for students from occupied Kashmir who were studying in the universities outside the territory.
“We got a message from the Dean (Students Welfare) of the university before Eid that a liaison officer, on behalf of the government, was coming who wanted to have lunch on the campus with the Kashmiri students. We said we don’t want government’s lunch,” he told media.
The Kashmiri students enrolled at the Aligarh Muslim University also boycotted as a mark of protest against the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir a so-called feast organised by University Vice Chancellor on Eidul Azha.
Most of the Kashmiri students have so far not been able to communicate with their families owing to the shutting down of all communications.
Meanwhile, President of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Neeraj Kundan, in an interview said that students in Jammu and Kashmir would be most affected by the scrapping of Articles 370 and 35-A. “Now we will have to face competition at the all-India level with those who have better environment for education and opportunities,” he said.
