Islamabad, September 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):President Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco and Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf have expressed the commitment to work jointly through available diplomatic channels to promote peace and sustainability in the region. During a meeting in Islamabad today (Monday), they also agreed to hold regular exchanges and cooperation through Parliamentary Friendship Groups to further mutual interest, particularly in trade and tourism.
The Speaker highlighted the situation of floods in the country terming it the worst catastrophe in the country’s history. He emphasized that the issue of climate change in Pakistan needs to be highlighted at all international forum and should be considered an emergency item in the upcoming conference of IPU in Rwanda next month.
Raja Pervez Ashraf insisted upon the President that the IPU should support Pakistan in overcoming the challenge of rehabilitation in flood-hit areas. The President of IPU appreciated the Speaker’s efforts in organizing the 3rd IPU Regional Seminar of Asia Pacific region and hoped that the event would prove pivotal in attracting support for flood victims of the country.
