ISESCO General Conference to convene Thursday in Saudi Arabia to approve appointing new chief

Jeddah An Extraordinary Session of the General Conference of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will be held in King Abdullah Economic City in the Makkah Region on Thursday, to approve the appointment of the new ISESCO DirectorGeneral, Dr. Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik.

AlMalik will succeed Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, who has held the post since 1991. Fiftyone delegations, representing the member states, will participate in the work of this session, in the presence of 35 ministers of education from Islamic countries.

ISESCO is a specialized international organization working within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), specializing in the fields of education, science, culture and communication in the Islamic countries. It is based in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

The Organization was established in accordance with a resolution issued by the 10th Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers in Fez, Morocco, in May 1979. ISESCO currently numbers 54 member states, along with three observer states, out of the 57 OIC countries.
