Islamabad High Court Intervenes in Missing Baloch Persons Protest

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations to appear before the court on August 4th in lawsuit filed against a demonstration being held by relatives of missing Baloch individuals outside the National Press Club.

Justice Sarfraz Dogar issued the written order after a hearing a petition submitted by the administration of a nearby petrol station, KS Oil, situated in Sector F-6. The petition presumably challenges the impact of the protest on their business operations.

The families of the missing persons have been staging a sit-in outside the press club, demanding information about the whereabouts of their loved ones. The protest has drawn attention to the issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. The court’s intervention adds another layer of complexity to the situation. The forthcoming hearing will likely address the legality of the protest and the concerns raised by the petrol station”s management. The presence of the DC and DIG suggests the court seeks a comprehensive understanding of the law enforcement response to the ongoing demonstration.
