Islamabad Implements New Vehicle Emission Checks

Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has initiated a vehicle emissions inspection operation in the capital, accompanied by new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the testing process.

Vehicles produced in 2022 or later are temporarily excused from these evaluations. However, all pre-2022 models must undergo compulsory emission testing in the initial phase.

The regulations stipulate that automobiles emitting less than 6% carbon monoxide will receive a certification sticker. Vehicles surpassing this 6% carbon monoxide threshold will be issued a caution.

The ITA stressed that automobiles lacking the official emission compliance sticker will be subject to penalties. The new procedures, endorsed by ITA Chairman Irfan Memon, are currently in force.
