Two laborers were killed while two others are in critical condition as a result of a steam pipe bursting on Tuesday in the powerhouse of Shakarganj Sugar Mill located on Toba Road.
The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Akmal and 30-year-old Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
The injured, Qaiser Imran and Zafar Iqbal, have been shifted to the hospital’s trauma center for immediate medical attention. According to doctors, the condition of both individuals is critical.
Following the incident, fellow workers expressed serious concern over poor safety arrangements at the mill and demanded a transparent investigation into the explosion.
It should be noted that several accidents have also occurred at the said plant in the past, which has led to increased demands for scrutiny of its safety protocols.
