Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC), took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court here on Wednesday.

He was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, in a ceremony held here at the Supreme Court (SC).

The ceremony was attended by the judges of the Supreme Court, Attorney General for Pakistan, senior lawyers, Officers of the Federal Judicial Academy, Law Officers and officers of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan.

Supreme Court’s Registrar, Muhammad Salim Khan, conducted the proceedings of the oath taking ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court were also present on the occasion.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi was recently nominated by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) as judge of the Supreme Court.

According to his profile, he was born in Lahore on September 15, 1963. He got a Bachelor of Science degree from Government College, Lahore and later furthered his legal education at Punjab University Law College, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 1989.

Ali Baqar Najafi was enrolled as an Advocate of the High Courts in 1990 and subsequently as an Advocate of the Supreme Court. He was appointed as LHC judge on April 16, 2012.

He has adjudicated over 37,000 cases across diverse jurisdictions, including Criminal, Civil, Constitutional, Human Rights, National Accountability Bureau, Banking, Company, Anti-Corruption, Narcotics, Murder References, Family, Rent, and Labour.
