Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Spokesperson Of the Government of Pakistan for Sindh, inspected Karachi’s Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, reviewed the progress of the expansion project, and reiterated the federal government’s commitment to the project.
Received by BRT officials at the Model Park station, he reviewed the expansion plans connecting the Sindh Exhibition Center to Taj Complex and NED University. He highlighted the federal allocation of Rs. 5.5 billion for the Green Line and an additional Rs. 11 billion for the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) gas pipeline project, emphasizing the government’s dedication to Karachi’s infrastructure development.
The spokesperson interacted with passengers, gathering feedback on the BRT service. Later, addressing the media, he acknowledged existing political tensions between the Sindh Governor and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and affirmed the coalition partnership between the MQM and PPP. He drew comparisons between projects initiated during former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s tenure and their subsequent inaugurations by Imran Khan. Ansari also indicated the Red Line project’s completion by 2026.
Experiencing the Green Line firsthand, Ansari interacted with satisfied passengers. He reiterated that the Green Line is a gift from the federal government to Karachi, with a further Rs. 55 billion allocated for future development, including three new stations. Ansari stated that the project’s management was handed over to the Sindh provincial government on March 10, 2025, and commended the Sindh Mass Transit Authority for increasing daily ridership from 52,000 to 82,000.
