Karachi mayor pledges 50 New Parks, Water Supply, and NICVD Center

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab today announced the construction of 50 new parks across the city, with development projects nearing completion.

the mayor made these remarks while inaugurating the newly developed Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Family Park in UC-5, Rasheedabad, Baldia Town. The event was attended by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders, town and UC chairmen, members, and local representatives.

About water shortages in District West, he stated that 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water have been channeled from the Hub River to resolve the issue. Additionally, a new satellite center of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) will be established in Baldia Town, providing residents of Mauripur and Keamari with accessible medical facilities.

According to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), he emphasized that development work is being carried out without discrimination in all seven districts of Karachi. He reassured residents of Baldia Town that their trust in his leadership will not be misplaced. Referring to the park’s transformation from a former garbage dump into a recreational space, he stated that it aligns with the vision of the PPP and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Mayor Wahab also announced that a football ground will soon be developed on Mauripur Road, with the tender process already completed. He remarked that Karachi’s ongoing development is visible to all, contrasting it with previous administrations that, according to him, used a lack of authority as an excuse for inaction. He criticized former Mayor Waseem Akhtar, claiming that he only made media appearances instead of focusing on governance.

Addressing encroachments, Wahab stated that effective action requires public cooperation. He noted that while every citizen wants facilities nearby, this often results in encroachments and traffic congestion. He suggested that people refrain from buying from street vendors, as impounded carts are legally returned within 15 days, allowing vendors to resume operations.

The newly inaugurated 20,000-square-foot park includes recreational facilities for children. The mayor reiterated that despite Baldia Town being a less developed area, the PPP remains committed to ensuring municipal services reach every part of Karachi.
