KCEU shows solidarity with families of disappeared Kashmiris

Brussels, August 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU), Ali Raza Syed, has expressed solidarity with the families of the people subjected to custodial disappearance by the Indian troops and police in occupied Kashmir.

As per the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) over 8,000 Kashmiris have vanished in the custody after they were picked up by the Indian troops, police and paramilitary forces during the last three decades and the families of these victims had no information about their whereabouts.

Ali Raza Syed in a statement issued after a meeting of KCEU’s core committee in Brussels in connection with the International Day of Disappeared Persons said that thousands of unnamed graves had been discovered in the occupied territory and the human rights activists feared that these graves could be of the disappeared Kashmiris.

The KCEU Chairman also supported the stance of APDP leader, Parveena Ahangar, who demanded that India must fulfill its obligations under international human rights laws to reveal the whereabouts of the disappeared Kashmiris. He also appreciated the role of Parvez Imroz, the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS).

Ali Raza Syed said that the impunity provided to the troops and police personnel under draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Disturbed Areas Act and Public Safety Act gave them the licence to kill, arrest and harass the people. He appealed to the world community to play its role in tracing the whereabouts of thousands of innocent Kashmiris subjected to custodial disappearance by the Indian police and troops.

About India’s attempt to revoke Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution, he said that Modi-led government in New Delhi wanted to abolish the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and the identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the Kashmiris should come forward to expose such evil designs.
