KCR to be converted in ultra-modern urban train service: PD

KARACHI:Project Director, Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), Ameer Mohammad Daudpota has revealed that KCR would be converted into ultra-modern urban train service in phases to facilitate Karachiites.

 

Talking to PPI Sunday, PD KCR Ameer Daudpota said KCR project consisted on three phases out of which work on the first phase for revival of alignments as per 1999 was underway expeditiously. The first phase comprises 12km route from Karachi City Station to Orangi Town via Manghopir. The work on the first phase has almost completed, he adds.

 

He informed that the work on 30km-long track for revival of 24 level crossings would begin soon as the Sindh government would construct underpasses and flyovers through Frontier Works Organization(FWO). He further informed that FWO had already started planning and designing of level crossings in consultation with Pakistan Railways. The work on level crossing is likely to start soon.

 

Daudpota said Ministry of Railways had planned to convert KCR into-ultra modern urban railway facility and services of consultancy company would be hired through tender very soon. He said an advertisement would publish soon to get services of consultancy company. The company will submit complete feasibility report in three months.

 

“The consultancy company will give a complete feasibility report about running the ultra-modern train service, its maintenance, revenue generation and utilization of KCR land on commercial basis, to make the this project profitable,” he further informed.

 

He hinted that KCR project could be included in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) or will be revived with support of government of Japan.
