Khanozai Elders Threaten Action Over Rescinded District Status

A tribal elder from Khanozai, Jamil Kakar, on Thursday urged authorities to formally reinstate Karezat as a district, warning that residents would otherwise determine a future course of action.

Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, Kakar, alongside figures including former provincial minister Abdul Wahid Siddique, detailed a series of governmental decisions that have caused significant local agitation.

He recounted that the Government of Balochistan initially notified Karezat as a district on November 21, 2022, comprising four tehsils. This order was annulled and reissued with three tehsils on November 22, 2022, before this subsequent notification was also cancelled entirely on November 29, 2022.

Kakar stated that this sequence of reversals has resulted in considerable unrest amongst the inhabitants of Khanozai. He confirmed that a petition has since been filed before the Balochistan High Court challenging the decision and seeking to restore Karezat’s district status.

He announced that all political parties from the area are arranging a public meeting in Khanozai city on March 26, 2026. The purpose of the assembly is to collectively devise a strategy regarding the restoration of the district.
