KMC health workers express concern for not being vaccinated yet

KARACHI:More than 14 hospitals run by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are still awaiting COVID-19 vaccines due to miscommunication between KMC and Sindh health department.

The sources at KMC told PPI that they had sent requisition for vaccines several times but all went into vain while the Sindh government said the KMC officials did not sent lists of healthcare workers for vaccination despite various reminders.

The vaccination of 2800 frontline health workers in KMC run hospital including Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD), Sarfraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital (SMH), Landhi Medical Complex, Spencer Eye Hospital, Landhi Cardiac Centre, Shah Faisal Cardiac Centre, Homeopathic Hospital Nazimabad, Leprosy Hospital Manghopir, Gazdarabad Maternity and General Hospital (GMGH) and other have still not started due to the poor communication between KMC and health department.

A administrative official at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) on condition of anonymity, told that frontline health workers were not happy with Sindh health department over double standard with KMC run hospitals employees. He demanded vaccination of doctors and nurses and paramedical staff working in KMC hospital on urgent basis.

When contacted, Media Coordinator to the Health Minister Meeran Yousuf said KMC hospitals administration did not sent lists of healthcare workers to Sindh health department for COVID-19 vaccination yet despite several contacts and reminders.

Senior Director Medical and Health Services Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Dr Abdul Hamid Jumani, said COVID-19 vaccination of KMC hospitals’ still will be started in a week as lists of employees had already been sent to Sindh health department.
