KMC seeks special grant for fire fighters

Karachi:Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approached the Sindh Government to release special grant-in-aid amounting to Rs 418.15 million for clearance of outstanding fire risk allowance of its fire brigade department. In the megacity, the fire fighters are also performing their duties amid Coronavirus situation.

According to a KMC notification, in the light of orders passed by Sindh High Court while disposing off the CMA No.3559/2019 (D-42 of 2013 and D-30 of 2013), it was stated that funds being released to KMC in lieu of OZT and the grant-in-aid are fully utilized in disbursement of monthly salaries. However, the released funds are quite insufficient for payment of fire risk allowance on regular basis. Payment of this allowance is outstanding since the month of November, 2018 and the amount has now been swelled to Rs. 418.146 million for the last 16 months.

In the light of above, KMC has requested that an amount of Rs.418.15 million may be released to KMC as Special Grant-in-Aid for the purpose of clearance of outstanding dues on account of fire risk allowance of Fire Brigade Department, so that the grievances of fire fighters may be redressed.
