KP govt’s drive against fume emitting vehicles underway

PESHAWAR: The Vehicles Emission Testing Stations (VETS) of Transport and Mass Transit Department of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a drive against the vehicles emitting fumes which affects environmental pollution.

The VETS staff and police team is jointly patrolling at different roads of Peshawar and challan the vehicles emitting smoke which are not according to the National Environmental Standards (NES).

Zubair Khan, Manager Vehicles Emission Testing Stations on Friday said that in the first phase, a five-day awareness campaign was conducted in Peshawar to inform more than five thousand vehicle drivers and transporters about the environmental pollution caused by vehicle fumes and informed in detail about its control and prevention and distributed pamphlets and brochures among them.

Apart from this, he added that awareness seminars and workshops were also organized in educational institutions in Peshawar, adding that awareness campaigns will be conducted in other districts of the province in the first phase and awareness seminars and workshops will be organized in educational institutions, while in the second phase VETS staff and police team will initiate operations against vehicles that do not conform to National Environmental Standards.
