Lahore Varsity Approves Rs4.435 Billion Budget With Deficit

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore’s Syndicate has passed a Rs4.435 billion budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, amidst concerns about a substantial deficit. The budget prioritizes innovation, applied research, development, and enhancements to educational facilities, services, and technology transfer.

Chairing the 77th Syndicate gathering, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus emphasized the institution”s commitment to applied research and developmental initiatives aimed at elevating the standard of education, research, and services. Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, was also present.

Prof Dr Younus revealed that Rs. 730 million has been earmarked for ongoing ventures in the upcoming financial year. This includes Rs. 550 million for bolstering the KBCMA and CVAS, Rs. 30 million for enhancing academic facilities at the Jhang campus, and Rs. 150 million for a new campus in Pattoki.

Treasurer Muhammad Umar informed the Syndicate that the university anticipates non-development revenue of Rs. 3.051 billion from various channels in 2025-26, against projected non-development expenditures of Rs. 3.705 billion, resulting in a shortfall of Rs. 654.192 million.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that UVAS aims to generate Rs. 2.110 billion from its own sources. To address the deficit, the university plans to boost revenue generation through increased research-based product sales and expanded diagnostic and clinical offerings. Austerity measures will also be implemented to contain recurring expenses within available resources.

The Vice-Chancellor also briefed the Syndicate on various academic and research endeavors, university rankings, dairy farm operations, seminars, training programs, motivational lectures, workshops, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with diverse institutions, ongoing developmental projects, student competitions, and institutional accomplishments.

The Syndicate addressed several administrative and academic matters in the best interests of the university and its students. They expressed unanimous commendation for the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus, Registrar Sajjad Hyder, and their team for their exceptional contributions and guidance.
