Launch of ‘Advanced Treaty Practice: From Signature to Domestic Law’ Training Program at International Arbitration and Mediation Center of Ministry of Law

The International Arbitration and Mediation Center (IMAC) under the Ministry of Law and Justice launched an important four-day training program titled ‘Advanced Treaty Practice: From Signature to Domestic Law’ in Islamabad today.

The event has drawn a distinguished assembly of delegates, including legal experts, government officials, and academics from China, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Trkiye, and Pakistan, highlighting a burgeoning spirit of international legal cooperation and regional collaboration in treaty law and dispute resolution.

Project Director of IMAC and Senior Consultant at the Ministry of Law and Justice, Ms. Aisha Rasool, described the programme as a landmark for Pakistan. She emphasised the importance of treaties as binding commitments with lasting legal consequences, originating from a Memorandum of Cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Chief Guest Raja Naeem Akbar, Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice, praised IMAC for organising this strategically significant initiative. He underscored the critical yet often underexplored aspect of translating treaty commitments into enforceable domestic laws.

Former Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Ahmer Bilal Soofi, highlighted the growing importance of treaties in shaping future alliances, stressing the need for practitioners to understand their multifaceted implications.

The programme delves into the complete treaty lifecycle, covering negotiation, drafting, ratification, interpretation of the Vienna Convention, and implementation into domestic frameworks. Participants engage in simulations and exercises to gain practical insights into complex treaty processes.

The event features a panel of experts, including former ministers and legal scholars, who contribute to the programme”s multidimensional learning approach, reinforcing cross-border institutional collaboration.

Beyond academic sessions, international delegates will visit key institutions such as the Supreme Court and the National Assembly, offering them a glimpse into Pakistan’s constitutional and cultural landscape.

This initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to fostering international legal cooperation and strengthening regional partnerships through legal education and diplomacy. The multinational participation fosters an exchange of comparative experiences and enhances mutual understanding among diverse legal traditions, promoting enduring partnerships among nations.
