LCA claims death of 500 people in Larkana district

LARKANA: The Larkana Chamber of Agriculture (LCA) has released the statistics of the loss of lives and property due to the heavy monsoon rains in the Larkana district which caused massive damage in Sindh including Larkana district.

While issuing a report about the destruction caused by the recent rains in the district, LCA President Syed Sirajul Oliya Rashdi said on Saturday that during the recent rains in Larkana district, 500 people have so far died due to various incidents and house destruction, 3 lakh houses have been destroyed, 15 lakh people and 250,000 families have been seriously affected. They said that out of which 1.2 million people are homeless and 250,000 are staying in the relief camps and over 2000 cattle have also died.

He said that crops in Larkana district have also suffered 100% damage. Giving the breakup, Rashdi said that 650,000 acres of standing crops were destroyed in Larkana taluka, including 11,000 acres of olives, 6,000 acres of vegetables, 38,000 acres of paddy, sugarcane and other crops. They said that crops sown on 45,000 acres in Ratodero taluka, 30,000 acres in Dukri taluka and 32,000 acres in Bakrani taluka have also been destroyed. They said in this way standing crops were destroyed in 33 UCs of Larkana Taluka, 12 UCs of Ratodero, 11 UCs of Dokri and 12 UCs of Bakrani taluka which have been very badly affected.
