Major Urban Hub Engulfed by Civic Crisis, Citizens Deprived of Basic Necessities

the nation’s largest metropolis and economic engine, is grappling with severe civic issues, leaving its inhabitants without fundamental amenities, according to Advocate Hasnain Ali Chauhan, a leader of the Insaf Lawyers Forum Karachi.

In a statement released on Monday, Mr Chauhan underscored how crumbling roadways, severe water scarcity, an unworkable drainage network, and accumulated refuse heaps across the sprawling urban centre have progressively complicated daily existence for its populace.

The advocate contended that the inability of local government bodies had exacerbated the predicament. He observed, “Stagnant sewage on thoroughfares and accumulating waste are unequivocal signs that the administrative framework has utterly failed.”

Furthermore, the persistent water scarcity has fostered the emergence of a tanker syndicate, whilst extended power outages and gas load-shedding continue to impose hardship on the inhabitants. He pointed out that inadequate road infrastructure and disorganised traffic control have transformed daily commutes into an arduous experience.

Despite generating approximately 90 percent of the provincial revenue and 65 percent of the national income, the metropolis lacks fundamental civic amenities, Chauhan asserted. He condemned the prolonged rule of the incumbent political party, lamenting that the once-renowned “city of lights” has been degraded into a pollution epicentre, rendering even its air perilous.

Urging prompt intervention, Advocate Chauhan called for decisive and swift actions to tackle the burgeoning issues confronting Karachi, ensuring its citizens receive their inherent rights.
