Massive Donkey Meat Haul Unearths Illegal Slaughterhouse In Islamabad

Islamabad authorities seized a staggering 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat and rescued 40 live donkeys in a raid on an illegal abattoir, according to Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) Director Irfan Memon. The operation, which followed a week-long surveillance effort based on intelligence reports about donkey meat distribution, resulted in the arrest of a foreign butcher and a security guard.

Memon revealed that IFA teams constantly monitor the city for unsafe food practices. “We conducted several days of observation to apprehend those responsible,” he explained. The investigation suggests the illicit activity had been operating for at least two weeks.

Authorities are working to determine the exact number of animals butchered and the distribution network of the illicit meat. Preliminary reports indicate some of the product may have been supplied to foreign residents, with the possibility of distribution beyond Islamabad, though this remains unconfirmed.

Memon assured the public that regular, unannounced inspections of food establishments, including nighttime checks, are conducted throughout Islamabad to ensure food safety. “This is the first such incident reported in the capital in the past two years,” he added. Police are conducting a thorough investigation, and further details will be released as they emerge.
