Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday morning reiterated his commitment to maintaining high standards in all ongoing development works across the city, vowing no compromise on quality. His remarks came after a comprehensive inspection of infrastructure projects in various districts, where he emphasized the municipality’s dedication to providing improved public facilities.
The Mayor commenced his inspection with a visit to the Meesam Lee Street rehabilitation project in the old city area. Accompanied by a delegation of journalists and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials, he underscored the importance of transparency in public works.
Mr. Wahab clarified that although Meesam Lee Street is categorized as a town thoroughfare, KMC is rehabilitating it for the convenience of residents. He reiterated that there would be no leniency regarding the quality of development activities, emphasizing that high-standard infrastructure is a fundamental responsibility.
Continuing his tour, the city’s Chief Executive arrived in District East to review the ongoing work on Sahba Akhtar Road. He stated that despite Gulshan Town being represented by political rivals, the Pakistan Peoples Party is actively carrying out the road’s rehabilitation work.
The rehabilitation of Sahba Akhtar Road is currently underway with an estimated cost of 200 million rupees. The Mayor informed the media that consultants have been hired to improve the quality of the ongoing construction.
Mr. Wahab pledged personal oversight of all current urban projects to maintain quality and provide better facilities to the public. He commented that while many are merely engaged in rhetoric, it is Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who is ensuring practical achievements.
He further vowed tireless efforts to serve the city’s residents, expressing confidence that a transformed Karachi would soon be visible to all.
Subsequently, Mayor Wahab inspected several major development projects in District Central, including the rehabilitation of S.M. Taufiq Road. Director General Technical Services, Tariq Mughal, provided a detailed briefing on the progress of these initiatives.
The Mayor stated that S.M. Taufiq Road is one of the busiest thoroughfares in District Central. He added that this 1.25-kilometer section of the road is rapidly progressing and is expected to be completed and opened for public use soon.
Concluding his observations, Mr. Wahab remarked that those who criticize the city remain inactive, while individuals actively involved in its improvement continue their dedicated services. Local representatives and KMC officials were present during his visit to District Central.
