Under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, several important decisions were approved after detailed consideration on a 22-point agenda at the provincial cabinet meeting held today at the CM House.
In a significant move, the cabinet extended the health insurance cover for employees of the Sindh Secretariat, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Sindh Assembly, and Governor House for another six months. This extension will benefit 4,805 government employees, with basic medical coverage maintained at 700,000 rupees. The value of this contract is 242.652 million rupees, and competitive bids are being invited for future contracts.
The assembly approved the formation of four strategic task forces to advance the economy, finance, industry, water resources, environmental change, and digital transformation. These task forces will consist of experts from various sectors who will propose strategies to address economic growth, investment, and environmental challenges.
A significant legislative development included the approval of the Sindh Control of Narcotic Substances (Amendment) Bill 2026, which intensified the crackdown on the production and sale of Gutka, Mawa, and Mainpuri. These substances are now classified as prohibited and will face strict legal measures under Schedule IV of the law.
To effectively combat corruption, amendments to the Anti-Corruption Rules 1993 were approved, outlining a clear legal framework for cases involving external agencies. The Anti-Corruption Establishment Sindh will handle these cases following the transfer of 108 references and 29 investigations from the National Accountability Bureau.
On the infrastructure front, the cabinet decided to procure 220,665 metric tons of wheat from PASCO to stabilize flour prices in Sindh and fill a significant shortfall.
Additionally, the proposed Sindh Forest Act 2026 was referred to the cabinet committee for further review, aiming to modernize the colonial-era Forest Act 1927.
Leadership extensions were also on the agenda, with Dr. Muhammad Sabir receiving a six-month extension as Executive Director of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma Karachi. RBUT Hospital Shikarpur was designated as a teaching hospital, enhancing medical education facilities in the area.
The cabinet discussed the establishment of a Registrar’s Office under the Sindh Private Security Act 2026 and approved the participation of a government delegation in the Hunan International Sister Cities Economic and Trade Forum in China.
Further decisions included land transfer for the Kunri Chili Market project, the formation of Mirpurkhas Water and Sewerage Corporation, approval of revised expenditures for the water pipeline project from Dumlottee to DHA, and the establishment of a modern logistics park on the Northern Bypass of Karachi.
Reforms in the Sindh Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education received principal approval, planning the implementation of a new examination management system and digital services.
Finally, a relief package for provincial government employees was approved, including increases in disparity allowances and conveyance allowances for various grades, effective from July 1, 2026.
