Islamabad, July 03, 2018 (PPI-OT): With a view to devise an immediate term water conservation action plan for the next 30 days another meeting of water sector experts was held today under the chairmanship of Barrister Ali Zafar Federal Minister for Water Resources. Eminent Water Sector Experts including officials from Ministry of Water Resources attended the meeting.
Towards effective water saving and conservation a number of workable recommendations were given by the experts broadly including capacity building of water sector institution, regulatory framework for groundwater usage , urgent measures towards ground water recharge through dug wells, possible support by the Federal Government, to provinces in the domain of municipal water supply, efficient agriculture practices to reduce presently over 90% consumption of water by the Agriculture sector to reduce it gradually and to have efficient water availability for the drinking water and industrial usage.
The meeting also dilated upon need of awareness raising through electronic and print media including TV programmes and interviews. Concluding the meeting, the Minister desired key recommendation for discussion and finalization in the final meeting on the issue likely to be held next week.
