Mehbooba Mufti demands accountability for Shopian and Topi Peer incidents

Srinagar, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has called for a thorough examination of the Shopian encounter and Topi Peer incidents in response to Indian Minister Amit Shah’s allegations involving the PDP, NC, and Congress in the purported killing of Kashmiri youth. Mufti’s comments come amidst a tense political atmosphere, as she pressed the government to deliver justice for any wrongful acts, including those that may have occurred during her and Omar Abdullah’s leadership.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during her visit to Kulgam District, Mufti spoke to reporters, challenging the authorities to pursue those accountable for the controversial incidents. She raised questions about the lack of action against those responsible for the alleged fake encounters, despite the government’s ability to investigate and prosecute.

Mufti emphasized the significance of the upcoming elections, framing them as an opportunity for the Kashmiri electorate to choose leaders who will prioritize and represent the region’s interests in the national legislative body. Her remarks underline the sentiment among certain Kashmiri political circles for more transparent and representative governance.
