Minister inspects fruit trees in Miyawaki Forest

KARACHI: Sindh minister for forest Syed Nasir Hussain Shah inspected fruit trees in Miyawaki Forest inaugurated by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in March 2019 at Shaheed Benazir Park in Boat Basin area of Clifton on Tuesday. Secretary Forest Dr Badar Jameel Mendhro briefed the minister about the progress of forest. Secretary local government Najam Ahmed Shah was also present.

 

On the occasion, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stated that greenery was key to betterment of environment. He said that Sindh government had launched Green Sindh, Urban forest and Mangroves forest projects in Sindh to carry forward the vision of PPP chairman.

 

He said that mangroves project of Sindh government had been recognized world over. Sindh government has inked carbon credit agreement and attracted huge foreign investment. He said that coastal areas starts from Karachi and covers Thatta, Sujawal and Badin districts and there was an acute shortage of potable water in these coastal areas. The minister added that foreign investment under carbon credit agreement would be utilized for providing potable water, health and education facilities in the coastal areas.

 

Shah said that our Prime Minister Imran Khan also inaugurated Miyawaki forest in Lahore and other places few days ago and claimed that it was the first ever Miyawaki forest inaugurated in Pakistan which was a positive step. “But I want to correct the record that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardi in March 2019 inaugurated the Miyawaki forest in Shaheed Benazir Park Boat Basin and other areas of Karachi,” the provincial forest minister added.

 

He said that this forest was free for all and people of Karachi could enjoy in peaceful environment of this forest as well fruits. “They have given permission, this forest is for everyone,” the minister concluded.
