The Mirpurkhas Metropolitan Municipal Corporation has launched an emergency city-wide cleaning campaign to clear the drainage system in an effort to prevent urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon season.
According to a statement issued by the Municipal Corporation today, Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori has issued directives to the concerned authorities to oversee the comprehensive cleaning of all major and minor drainage canals, including the mega drains. The aim is to ensure the uninterrupted flow of rainwater to the pumping stations and prevent water accumulation in urban areas.
The initiative also includes measures to ensure the timely discharge of water from the pumping stations, to further minimize the risk of inconvenience faced by the public during heavy rains.
The first phase of the cleaning campaign has already commenced in the Hirabad and Khar Para areas. Municipal staff, along with machinery, are actively engaged in cleaning mega drains, sewers, and smaller waterways, and the progress of the work is being monitored daily.
In addition to cleaning the drains, the mayor has also ordered the cleaning of all main thoroughfares in the city. A regular garbage collection program is also underway to promote a clean and healthy urban environment.
Mayor Ghori has appealed to the residents to cooperate in this campaign. He urged the public to use designated spots for garbage and to refrain from throwing waste into the drains, stressing that such measures are crucial for keeping the city clean and safe during the rainy season.
