Mother of task force warrior dies of COVID-19; DHO refuses ambulance

LARKANA:The mother of two doctors died of coronavirus at the COVID-19 ICU of the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Friday.

One of her sons, Dr Ayaz Memon, is a senior member of the Task Force made by the incharge District Health Officer (DHO), Larkana. The task force is assigned to take samples of suspected coronavirus people and send them to the laboratories. Her other son, Dr. Fayaz Memon, is posted to work at the CMCH Surgery Department.

Incharge DHO Dr Athar Shah was asked to provide an ambulance to shift the body to her home in Murad Wahan locality but he instantly refused government ambulance to frontline warriors, credible sources disclosed to this scribe

This attitude of the DHO was widely condemned by the doctor’s community. The incharge DHO has been posted on senior post of BPS-20 in violation of apex court orders as he is in BPS-19, hence, the post of DHO is vacant since long time.

Dr Ayaz has been constantly taking swabs of suspected cases since last over three months and his services are widely appreciated by the residents who are facing viral disease threats. He himself remained isolated at his home when he himself developed symptoms and resumed duty soon after his recovery and during that time his family was extremely worried but nobody came to inquire about his health including incharge DHO which indeed is very pathetic.

Doctors and paramedics who are posted to work either at isolation ward or COVID-19 ICU have demanded of the provincial government that if they or their family members are infected by the deadly virus then their treatment must be ensured at any reputable private hospital in Karachi where best facilities are available but their per day cost is much higher than their monthly salaries which they cannot afford in this poverty and pandemic era.
