Prominent surgeon Dr. Rizwan Naseer, in his special message today on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, shared a bitter truth, stating that motorcycles are the cause of 75% of all road accidents.

Highlighting the dangerous and growing trend in deaths from road accidents, he said that they have consistently increased over the past three years. According to statistics, 3,967 lives were lost in 2023, which increased to 4,139 in 2024, and so far in 2025, this number has alarmingly reached 4,201.

Dr. Naseer identified specific risky behaviors causing these incidents, emphasizing that weaving a motorcycle between vehicles in the fast lane is a life-threatening act. He also clarified that riding a motorcycle at speeds exceeding 50 kilometers per hour is considered dangerous.

The message stressed the utmost importance of safety equipment, including helmets and side mirrors. However, Dr. Naseer reiterated that speeding and weaving between vehicles are fatal actions that cannot be prevented by safety gear alone.

To effectively reduce the number of collisions, he urged a united effort, stating that all relevant parties, including government agencies, parents, teachers, and the wider community, must work together.

Rescue 1122 has reiterated its commitment to accident prevention and raising societal awareness. A spokesperson for the service confirmed on this occasion that various public awareness programs are being organized to mark the World Day of Remembrance.
