(National): Injured Pakistani stranded in Saudi Arabia due to heavy medical bill

Larkana: Machi community people from Haji Mashori village, located near Mohenjo Daro, held a protest demonstration at Jinnah Bagh in Larkana on Wednesday, demanding federal and provincial governments’ help to bring back their labourer patient from Saudi Arabian hospital as he is unable to pay huge treatment bills.

Sara Khatoon Machi, the mother of patient Ali Asghar, brother Ghulam Sarwar Machi and Kamil Khatoon accompanied by their minor children alleged that their young Ali Asghar Machi went to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to earn livelihood four years ago through labour work for supporting his poor family and during labour work he fell down from a high building due to which he received severe head injuries.

They said Asghar was rushed to King Abdul Aziz Hospital, Jeddah, by the area people where he was admitted for medical treatment. They said he was in the hospital for several months and they were informed about his condition by other Pakistanis who are staying there. They said that when they contacted Asghar he told them that the hospital administration had issued a bill for 284,150 Saudi Riyals which is equal to about Pakistan’s Rs two crore.

They said: “We are labour class people, very poor and are already stricken by worst poverty. How can we pay such a huge amount? they asked.” They said that after his failure to clear the bill, the hospital authorities were not allowing him to return to Pakistan which was highly unjust for which they appealed to federal and provincial governments to take notice of the matter and bring their loved one back to his country to earn their blessings.
