National – Thousands displaced from Tirah face humanitarian crisis in severe cold: HRCP

Thousands of individuals displaced from the Tirah Valley are facing a dire situation, stranded for days in sub-zero temperatures with inadequate facilities, prompting the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) to warn of a major humanitarian catastrophe.

The human rights body, in a statement today, issued a stark warning to the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments regarding the perilous ordeal faced by the displaced population, which includes children, women, the elderly, and the sick.

According to reports, these thousands are enduring the extreme cold without adequate shelter, food, water, or essential medical care. The displacement preceded an operation in the area.

While relief operations are underway, the HRCP has stressed the urgent need to immediately and significantly scale up these efforts.

The commission has called for the clearing of access routes, and the immediate provision of winterized relief supplies to avert a major disaster.
