Newly Formed Tripartite Task Force Meeting Held at SESSI Head Office

The inaugural meeting of the Provincial Tripartite Task Force on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work was held at the head office of the Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI) under the chairmanship of Secretary Labour Asadullah Abro, with a special focus on improving the conditions of workers and enforcing their fundamental rights in Sindh’s agricultural sector, particularly the cotton sub-sector.

The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including SESSI Commissioner Hadi Bux Kalhoro and Director Labour R.S. Sajnani. Additionally, representatives from the Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, various labour organizations, and government departments such as Agriculture, Local Government, Social Welfare, and Women Development were also present.

During the meeting, the panel deliberated on strategies for the effective implementation of internationally recognized labour standards. A key decision was made to expand the task force by including more relevant departments to formulate comprehensive policies for protecting workers’ rights at the grassroots level.

Representatives of agricultural workers praised the initiative, expressing hope that the development of specific action plans will lead to significant improvements in working conditions and ensure robust protection of their rights throughout Sindh.

In his concluding remarks, the Chairman and Provincial Secretary Labour, Mr. Abro, thanked all the participants. He stated that the meeting has reinforced the shared commitment among all parties to promote decent work, social justice, and fundamental principles of labour.

The Government of Sindh had formally established this tripartite body through a notification on September 9, 2025, in line with its commitment to the conventions ratified by the International Labour Organization.
