Srinagar, March 17, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Naseem Gilani, son of APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, have received fresh summons from the Indian National Investigation Agency asking them to appear before its New Delhi headquarters for questioning in fake cases.
This is the second time in about one week that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Naseem Gilani have been summoned by the NIA to New Delhi. The investigation agency has also summoned Hurriyat leader, Zafar Akbar Butt, to Delhi on Saturday. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has said that the summoning of NIA is meant to intimidate and harass the Kashmiri leadership. However, Hurriyat leaders can never be forced into submission by such Indian tactics.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said Kashmir has been turned into a concentration camp where people are detained on frivolous charges. He condemned the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Bandipora district President, Danish Mushtaq Malik and other party leaders including Syed Imtiyaz Haider and Bashir Ahmed.
The authorities shifted two Kashmiri youth, Nasir Rashid and Ashiq Dar to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu. They were slapped with draconian Public Safety Act a few days ago. In yet another horrific incident, a Kashmiri shawl seller was attacked with a sword and deprived of almost Rs 2 lakh by a gang of Hindu extremists in Kolkata, India. He was admitted to hospital in injured condition. The victim, Shakoor Ahmad Shah, belongs to Budgam district of occupied Kashmir.
Speakers at a seminar organized by the Jammu and Kashmir United Peace Movement, an umbrella organization of different organizations and forums, in Jammu urged Pakistan and India to hold top level talks to resolve the Kashmir dispute.
Meanwhile, the US State Department in its annual report released in Washington, while citing widespread human rights violations by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir has called for an international probe into the rights abuses in the territory. The report notes that the draconian Indian Public Safety Act, which applies only in Jammu and Kashmir, permits the authorities to detain persons without charge or judicial review for up to two years.
Participants of a protest march in the German city Berlin called upon the international community especially the United Nations and the European Union to play their role for de-escalation in South Asia by facilitating a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. The rally besides others was addressed by the Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe, Ali Raza Syed.
Participants of a protest rally held outside the Indian High Commission in London said that peace in the South Asian region was impossible without giving the Kashmiris’ their inalienable right to self-determination. The rally was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Self Determination Movement International.
