ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), Pakistan's prominent exploration and production firm, has entered into a strategic partnership with SNF S.A., a leading French chemical company, to implement advanced Water Injection Systems at the Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields in Hyderabad district, Sindh. The agreement, signed at OGDC's Islamabad headquarters, is expected to bolster production capabilities and foster sustainable energy development. The signing event was attended by key figures, including Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik, OGDC's MD/CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, and French Ambassador Nicolas Galey.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the project aims to elevate reservoir pressure, optimize oil recovery, and maintain sustainable production using cutting-edge water injection technology. The initiative will unfold in three phases: an initial nine-month period for installation and commissioning, followed by a two-year operations and maintenance phase. This period will include comprehensive training for OGDC professionals. Post-completion, OGDC will take over the technology and operational control, leveraging the expertise acquired through the partnership. The facilities have an operational lifespan of about 20 years.
The project is anticipated to boost oil production by approximately 9 million barrels and gas production by 3 billion cubic feet, enhancing the recovery factor by 8 to 10 percent. This could translate into an estimated USD 460 million in additional revenue over the fields' lifespans, indicating robust economic potential.
Environmentally, the project promises substantial benefits by reinjecting treated produced water into reservoir zones, thereby ensuring safe disposal and minimizing environmental risks. This aligns with sustainable practices and international standards.
The collaboration emphasizes OGDC's dedication to operational excellence, technological progress, and creating long-term value in Pakistan's energy sector through partnerships with global service leaders.
