OIC, 21 Nations Denounce Israeli Recognition of Somaliland

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a coalition of twenty-one countries, including Pakistan, have issued a stern rejection of Israel”s recognition of Somalia”s “Somaliland” region, warning of grave consequences for regional peace and security.

According to a report by MOIB on Sunday, in a unified joint statement, the OIC was joined by nations such as Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Iran, alongside Somalia itself, to denounce the Israeli measure.

The communiqué described the move as a “blatant disregard” for international law and the United Nations Charter, emphasising that these frameworks explicitly protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

The signatories affirmed their complete support for the sovereignty of Somalia and categorically rejected any action that could undermine the nation”s unity or control over its entire territory.

Furthermore, the declaration firmly repudiated any potential connection between Israel”s action and any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land, a prospect the group rejected in any form as a matter of principle.
