Oldest primary school lacks proper facilities in Naundero

Larakana: How much the Sindh government is serious about improving the education system in the province is evident from the fact that Shaheed Major Mujahid Mirani Government Primary School, in Naundero, the hometown of Bhutto leaders, is lacking fundamental facilities.

The school has enrolled over 750 little students where 20 Primary School Teachers have been posted to work as per sanctioned strength. This is the school where a polling station is always established during LB polls and general elections and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have exercised their right to vote in it.

The school has no cold or warm drinking water facilities at all and the headmaster brings ice from his home daily out of which two water coolers are prepared which are insufficient for hundreds of children studying in the school during the sizzling hot weather.

Two cold water machines are lying idle as their compressors have been stolen. The school has 19 classrooms and most of the ceiling fans installed are dysfunctional causing trouble to the kids who cannot study.

The school furniture is outdated and there are no chairs for the teachers which is extremely worrying, exposing the ruler’s seriousness to improve the quality of education in Sindh. The school very badly needs solar panels to ensure uninterrupted power supply and to tackle massive electricity outages.

Cleanliness should also be maintained to keep the environment neat and clean free of pollution. Building of the school is also in shabby condition which also needs immediate reconstruction or repair and renovation, SMC fund of Rs25000 is given annually to the school which also needs to be revised.

The school is located at an ideal place very comfortable for the children to come to study and get educated but lack of proper facilities have ruined it. Recently Sindh government appointed qualified Primary School Teachers (PSTs) on merit through IBA test but the teachers have been shocked to find that essential basic requirements have not yet been provided to the school despite the fact that Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had asked her party to give top priority to education and health sectors but her vision has so far been ignored as both sectors have almost been destroyed in the province.Former MRD convenor Hussain Bux Narejo when contacted on Sunday said that education is vital for a child to build his future but in Sindh it has been made a joke.

He said this school should have been made a model school as Bhutto leaders cast their votes here which means it has attained a historical significance but it stands neglected during their own party’s rule which is highly heart-wrenching.

He said all the requirements of the school should be fulfilled forthwith enabling the students to get education in a proper environment because it is one of the oldest schools of Naundero. District Education Officer (Primary), Larkana, Gulsher Soomro was repeatedly contacted to have his views but he did not attend the call.
