Order to intensify campaign against sale of gutka, mawa and illegal liquor in Thatta

Law enforcement agencies in Thatta are engaged in an ongoing campaign against social evils including gutka, mawa, and illegal liquor, which senior police officials have termed a “major challenge.” The commitment to this crackdown was expressed in an introductory meeting held on Monday, chaired by the district’s new Deputy Commissioner, Sarmad Ali Bhagat, where he gathered the heads of all government departments to outline his administrative priorities.

Addressing a meeting of officers after assuming his new post, Deputy Commissioner Bhagat announced that health and education would be his top priorities, and he pledged to implement concrete measures to improve these crucial sectors.

He emphasized that the combined effort of all government departments is essential for the development of the district and the welfare of its residents. He directed the officers to ensure their presence in the field, establish direct contact with the public, and work with integrity and responsibility to solve their problems, assuring them of the administration’s full support for the completion of transparent projects.

The Deputy Commissioner also delivered an impactful message on public service, reminding the attendees that public servants should strive to leave a positive and lasting legacy, so they can earn the respect of the public and a good place in history through their good performance and commitment to the community’s welfare.

During the meeting, SSP Farooq Ahmed Bijarani described Thatta as a peaceful district where the law and order situation is completely under control. He said that while the rate of serious crime is low, continuous action is being taken against petty crimes, and the crackdown against illegal substances is a key operational focus of the police force.

In this comprehensive meeting, which was attended by senior figures such as Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Ghulam Dastagir Shaikh, the heads of several key departments including Health, Education, Social Welfare, Irrigation, and Rescue 1122 had the opportunity to present detailed briefings on their departmental responsibilities, ongoing projects, and operational challenges.

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Commissioner Bhagat reiterated his appeal to all officers to work in close collaboration, and assured them of the district administration’s full support in all efforts aimed at putting Thatta on the path to development, peace, and prosperity.
