Over 1,000 Officers Advanced in Major Restructuring of islamabad’s Police Force

The capital’s police force has seen a significant advancement of its personnel this year, with a total of 1,016 officers and staff members receiving promotions across various ranks following a directive from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

The promotions were actioned after the IGP instructed the Departmental Promotion Committee to convene and address all vacant positions within the force, according to a report today .

In response, the committee held several meetings to assess eligible officers. The approvals were granted after a review process based on criteria of merit and transparency, according to the source.

Senior police officials examined the service records of personnel from different ranks. Recommendations for individuals with strong performance histories were then forwarded to IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who formally approved the advancements.

The large-scale elevations included the advancement of 10 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to the rank of Superintendent (SP) and 27 Inspectors to DSP.

Further down the hierarchy, 94 Sub-Inspectors were elevated to Inspector, while 189 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) were made Sub-Inspectors.

The promotions also extended to lower ranks, with 306 Head Constables being moved up to ASI and 350 Constables promoted to Head Constable. Additionally, 40 members of the clerical staff also received advancements.

In a statement, IGP Rizvi noted that departmental promotion is a fundamental right for every police officer and reflects increased responsibilities and institutional trust.

He stated his expectation that the newly elevated personnel would perform their duties with dedication, integrity, and professionalism to honor the department, which he referred to as one of “martyrs and heroes.”

The IGP affirmed that the welfare of the police force is a top priority and that the process will continue. He assured that all officers who have passed their departmental courses will be promoted against available vacancies according to merit, transparency, and seniority until all posts are filled.
