Traffic authorities imposed fines of over Rs250 million in a single week through a massive e-challan campaign, with a staggering Rs168 million imposed on drivers and passengers for not wearing seatbelts. This single violation represented the vast majority of fines issued out of the over 28,000 electronic challans.
According to a report released on Wednesday on the enforcement campaign, the second-largest portion of fines was for helmet violations, totaling Rs31.3 million. Motorists exceeding the prescribed speed limit were fined a total of Rs19.5 million.
Further analysis of the weekly figures shows that Rs12.1 million in challans were issued for breaking traffic signals.
The report also stated that Rs6.9 million in fines were imposed for using mobile phones while driving, while Rs7.1 million were imposed on vehicles with illegal tinted windows.
