PM: (Govt committed to mitigate deprivations of South Punjab: PM)

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that incumbent government is committed to mitigate the deprivations of South Punjab and rights of the farmers will be protected.

He was talking to a delegation of Members of National Assembly from Bahawalpur division who called on him here on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister said South Punjab remained deprived in the past due to unjust distribution of resources, violation of merit and failure of good governance.

He said facilities of education and health will be ensured and youth will be equipped with skills besides providing them employment opportunities.

He also informed the delegation about efforts of federal and Punjab government for provision of clean drinking water in the province.

He said the government is also committed to empower the people at grass roots level. He said due to prudent efforts of the government, foreign investors and renowned companies are now investing in Pakistan.

The MNAs appreciated the government decision for constitution of committees at division level and said that the committees will help in resolving local issues being faced by the people.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the coming time is of socially prosperous and economically stable Pakistan.

Earlier, the members apprised the Prime Minister of various issues in their constituencies.

PEMRA: (PEMRA Chairman visits PEMRA regional office Multan)

ISLAMABAD:Chairman PEMRA Muhammad Saleem Baig, on Wednesday visited Regional Office Multan.

The In-charge Regional Office Faqir Afzal Masoom briefed about the operational activities, licensing, enforcement and recovery status in Multan Region. Moreover, efforts made vis-à-vis drive against illegal Indian DTH/ Channels were also discussed.

Chairman PEMRA was also briefed on the ongoing crackdown being carried out by PEMRA Field Staff in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies including Federal Investigation Agency, Customs Intelligence, Police and Rangers, against the illegal Indian DTH in the country.

During this crackdown a large number of illegal equipment has been seized including 222 C-Line Receivers, 273LNBs, 66 Dish Antennas and other related equipment.

Efforts of PEMRA Field Staff were appreciated by the Chairman PEMRA. He urged them to continue crackdown and enforcement drive more effectively against sale/purchase of illegal Indian DTH, C-Line and Jadoo Box and associated activities to completely eliminate the grey market of Indian DTH and ensure strict compliance of orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as proliferation of illegal Indian DTH is not only detrimental to the social, cultural and religious values of our society but is also causing huge financial loss to the country’s exchequer.

During visit, the Chairman also held meeting with the representatives of the cable operators of Multan and asked them to operate within the legal ambit, as any illegal activity will be responded by strict action by PEMRA, and ensure strict compliance of the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding Indian content.

He accentuated that the Cable Operators should play their role in creating awareness among the masses especially by relying the public service messages on pressing issues, such as Supreme Court Dam Fund, Clean Green Pakistan and Traffic laws which play a pivotal role in making of a socially responsible society.

Moreover, he assured to, address all the fair demands of Cable TV Operators and take measure to make the industry flourish.

While talking to officials at Regional Office Multan, Chairman PEMRA stressed upon the need to ensure an open door policy as well as regular communication with all stakeholders and adopt policy for imparting facilitation and support to the licensees in accordance with PEMRA law.

He was accompanied by Director General Operations Muhammad Farooq, General Manager Operations Muhammad Tahir and Secretary to the Authority Fakhar-ud-Din Mughal.

Politics: (PPP condemns Govt’s decision to put Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir’s names on ECL)

ISLAMABAD:Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Spokesperson to Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto, has condemned the government’s decision to put Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir’s names on the ECL.

“Putting the names of elected members of parliament on ECL is an authoritarian and dictatorial step. To stop them from travelling abroad is a negation of basic human rights, civil rights and democratic rights,” said Senator Khokhar in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

He said this proves that the PTI is working on some different agenda. “PTI wants to target all democratic forces. This will lead to chaos. By placing Dawar and Wazir’s names on ECL, PTI government is behaving like dictators and this is why we say that Imran Khan is a Selected Prime Minister”, he added.

He said Imran Khan wants to end the Opposition parties and finish democracy but the PPP will not let him turn this country into One-Unit.

“We will not let this government impose a One-Party rule in Pakistan. Mr Khan should not hide behind institutions. He should own what he is doing”, Khokhar said.

Minister: (Nation proud of security forces: Shehryar)

ISLAMABAD:Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has said that the nation is proud of its security forces that have rendered matchless sacrifices for the country.

He was addressing the passing out parade of lower and basic recruits’ course at Police Lines, Islamabad on Wednesday.

He said there is no alternate to the services and sacrifices of our security forces and law enforcement agencies and the Government is committed to provide state of the art facilities to them.

LMC employees hold demo for payment of eight-month salaries

LARKANA:The 55 employees of Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) held a protest demonstration against the non-payment of eight-month salaries here on Wednesday.

They demonstrated when PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro arrived to preside over a general body meeting of PPP Larkana at Begum Nusrat Bhutto Multipurpose Hall. They waylaid him and demanded fulfillment of his promise. On seeing this, Larkana Mayor Aslam Shaikh called some of them and held talks but he categorically refused to disburse their salaries, the employees told newsmen.

When Khuhro came out, they again held a protest and did not allow his vehicle to move. They chanted sky-high slogans against the mayor. One of the employees fell down in front of his vehicle but he did not come out.

PPP leaders Fatah Bhutto, Khair Muhammad Shaikh, Noordin Abro and others also reached and persuaded the agitating employees to disperse as their issue will be resolved but they refused.

Employees Jabbar Chandio, Imran Bughio, Zulfiqar Hulio, Irfan Samo and others said that they had not been paid their monthly salaries since last eight months and Larkana Mayor had been putting them on false promises due to which he had become unreliable. They said mayor’s job was to resolve issues confronted by the employees but he had proved to be non-serious and unreliable which was highhandedness. They dispersed peacefully after the assurance of local party leaders that they will get the payments soon.

Education milestone: Shikarpur gets Shaikh Ayaz University

Shikarpur:The Shikarpur Campus of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur was upgraded to the status of new university in the name of Shaikh Ayaz University Shikarpur as per notification issued by Sindh government.

The SALU Shikarpur campus has been closed and all the moveable and immoveable properties, including vehicles, were returned to another SALU, except government properties.

As per notification, Professor Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor of IBA University Sukkur was appointed and posted as a first Vice Chancellor of Shaikh Ayaz University Shikarpur on temporary basis to look after the administrative and other university affairs and resumed his office on 17th December 2018 till the other Vice Chancellor was appointed on regular basis after completing the required legal formalities and appointment process.

While Pro-Vice Chancellor Ahmed Ali Shah posted at Shikarpur Campus was returned to Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur after the notification of the Shaikh Ayaz University was issued by Sindh government.

About the new admissions, Deputy Registrar Mir Muhammad Mahar informed this correspondent that the new admission will commenced from 18th of December 2018, in the newly born Shaikh Ayaz University in different subjects. The student those who were managed qualified the entry tests for the admissions by Campus before the date of establishment of the Shaikh Ayaz University would be considered as acceptable by the University.

While the other regular admissions would be held in accordance to the terms and conditions formed by the University after 18th December 2018. In order to run the Shaikh Ayaz University Shikarpur in proper way the PC-I will be revised and submitted to the Government of Sindh with the Annual Development Program upto 10th January 2019.

According to university reliable sources, the competent authorities of the newly established University in Shikarpur will have to approach the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for it’s recognization and allocation of funds required by the University to run.

The University Administration has requested to request the Sindh Government for allocation of funds in Annual Budget in order to enable the Shaikh Ayaz University Shikarpur for regular and proper functioning to meet the national course of promoting and providing the higher education facilities to the people of five districts of upper Sindh including Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot-Kashmore, Qambar-Shahdadkot and Larkana and other adjoining areas of Balochistan and Punjab provinces and thousands of students of those area would be benefited.

The 55 acres of land was already purchased with the cost of Rs 917.000000 million by the Sindh government and the 45 acres of more land was finalized to purchase when the funds would be provided from Sindh government. At least 500 acres of the land are required for construction of university, offices, residential buildings and other required development purpose.
