Pakistan Alleges ‘Eastern Neighbour’ Supports Terrorist Groups Operating Freely From Afghanistan

Pakistan has called for robust international action against terrorist threats originating from Afghanistan, alleging that specific militant outfits are operating with “virtual impunity” from Afghan soil with the active support of its “eastern neighbour”.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council briefing on “Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Terrorist Acts”, Pakistan”s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, asserted that these groups are responsible for heinous attacks within Pakistan, according to report by MOIB today.

The ambassador stated that externally sponsored and foreign-funded proxy organisations, such as the Fitna al Khawarij TTP and the Fitna al Hindustan BLA with its Majeed Brigade, have experienced a resurgence over the last few years, particularly following the Taliban takeover in Kabul.

Ahmad warned that these entities pose a danger not only to Pakistan but to the entire region and beyond, pointing to recent terrorist activity in Central Asia near the Afghan border as a validation of earlier warnings.

He stressed that it has become imperative to prevent the billions of dollars worth of sophisticated weapons and equipment left behind by foreign forces in Afghanistan from falling into the hands of terrorists.

The representative demanded accountability for “external destabilizing actors who support, finance and arm these groups, including their proxies in Afghanistan”.

Concluding his remarks, the ambassador affirmed that Pakistan will continue to support multilateral efforts aimed at devising comprehensive and holistic strategies to combat and eradicate this menace through collective endeavours and cooperation.
