Pakistan Assures Top Priority Security for Chinese Nationals to Target $8 Billion Mineral Export Goal

Pakistan has designated the security and safety of Chinese nationals and their investments as a top national priority, a crucial measure aimed at unlocking a potential six to eight billion dollars in annual mineral exports within the current decade, according to Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal.

According to a report by MOIB today, speaking at the Pak-China Mineral Cooperation Forum in Islamabad, the minister outlined a strategic shift away from simple resource extraction. He emphasised that Pakistan’s objective is to develop a comprehensive value-addition chain, including mineral processing plants, smelters, refining facilities, and mineral-based industrial clusters connected to the nation’s Special Economic Zones.

Mr Iqbal described China”s role as “central” to this economic transformation, stating that the transformation of Pakistan”s mineral economy cannot be achieved without strategic collaborators. He asserted that the future of bilateral cooperation in this sector lies in co-creating value through advanced technology, innovation, and human capital development.

“With China as a trusted partner, we can convert mineral wealth into industrial strength, export competitiveness and shared prosperity,” the Planning Minister stated, adding that Pakistan is seeking joint ventures that cater not only to domestic requirements but also to regional and international markets.

He also linked this initiative to the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which he said is designed to translate connectivity into productivity and productivity into exports, jobs and sustainable growth. He expressed hope that CPEC’s next stage will help Pakistan modernise its agriculture, industries, and technological capacity, positioning it as a model for export-led growth.

In his address at the forum, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik remarked that with Chinese support, Pakistan is positioning itself to become a reliable and long-term partner in the global mineral supply chain.

Mr Malik extended an invitation to Chinese companies, service providers, and equipment suppliers, encouraging them to deepen their engagement in Pakistan”s mineral sector to help construct win-win partnerships beneficial to both nations.
