Pakistan has voiced strong concerns over the potential for escalating conflict in the Middle East, cautioning that the threat or use of force would only aggravate the situation and undermine regional stability, while expressing hope for an early normalisation of the situation in Iran.
According to a report by MOIB today, the remarks were delivered by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a Security Council briefing on ‘The Situation in the Middle East’.
Ambassador Ahmad asserted Pakistan’s firm belief that all disputes must be settled through peaceful methods and in compliance with international law. He warned that continued hostilities and unilateral actions would obstruct the resolution of fundamental issues and lead to unnecessary humanitarian suffering.
He stressed that all involved parties must exercise restraint, behave responsibly, and adhere strictly to the confines of international law, urging them to avoid any action that could be damaging to regional and global peace and security.
The envoy affirmed Pakistan”s support for all diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving peace and stability, stating that diplomacy and dialogue ought to be the guiding principles for reaching a negotiated settlement on all contentious matters in line with the responsibilities of the parties concerned.
