Pakistan High Commissioner to Canada Muhammad Saleem stressed the nation’s commitment to socio-economic development and regional peace during a ceremony in Ottawa to mark the country’s National Day and also highlighted the strong ties between the two countries.
The event, held with patriotic fervour at the Chancery premises, marked the 86th anniversary of the Lahore Resolution”s adoption on 23 March 1940. It was attended by High Commission staff, students, and members of the Pakistani-Canadian community.
The commemoration began with a graceful flag-hoisting ceremony conducted by High Commissioner Saleem.
Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar were also presented. The leaders” statements reaffirmed the national commitment to realising the vision of Pakistan”s founding fathers for a strong and prosperous country.
In his address, the High Commissioner paid tribute to the immense sacrifices and unwavering determination of the nation”s founders. He reiterated Pakistan”s dedication to constructive engagement with the international community.
Saleem specifically noted the positive trajectory in bilateral relations with Canada, citing growing cooperation in trade, investment, and higher education. He also praised the Pakistani diaspora for its invaluable role in strengthening these people-to-people contacts.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers offered for the progress, resilience, and prosperity of Pakistan.
