Pakistan Deepens European Ties with New Moldova Consulate, Gilani Champions Parliamentary Diplomacy

Pakistan’s Senate Chairman, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, heralded the opening of the Republic of Moldova’s Honorary Consulate in Pakistan as a pivotal development, underscoring a strategic push towards enhanced parliamentary diplomacy and global cooperation.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at a ceremony for the appointment of Syed Kashif Ali as the new Honorary Consul, Chairman Gilani congratulated the appointee, describing the consulate’s establishment as a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations, according to a statement today.

The Senate chairman articulated that the move reflects a mutual commitment to fortify diplomatic, economic, and institutional links. He reaffirmed Pakistan”s dedication to broadening collaboration with Moldova and other international partners across a spectrum of priority sectors.

These areas identified for enhanced cooperation include trade, agriculture, defence, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare, alongside information technology, education, and professional training initiatives.

Mr Gilani also highlighted Pakistan”s expanding role in parliamentary diplomacy, emphasising the essential function of legislative bodies in cultivating dialogue, building confidence, and securing long-term international partnership.

Referencing his role as the Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), he welcomed Cambodia’s decision to host the forum”s second conference later this year, noting it as a sign of the platform”s growing international recognition.

The event, attended by various diplomats and international representatives, framed the new Honorary Consulate as a vital bridge intended to foster friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Moldova.
