A high-level meeting today outlined a new strategy to attract more than 100 Chinese businesses for resource extraction in Pakistan, with a core focus on developing a transparent framework to curb rampant illegal mining in regions like Hangu and Waziristan.
The initiative was discussed in a pivotal meeting between executives from Digital Nexus and a senior official from the Ministry of Planning. CEO Ms. Saboohi Hussain and CDO Mr. Hussain Subhani met with Dr. Shoaib Hassan, Member of Private Sector Development, to advance the plan for securing significant foreign capital from China and Qatar.
Discussions centered on a prospective Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Qatari digital marketing firm. This firm acts as a conduit for Chinese enterprises interested in sourcing local Pakistani resources, specifically identified as sea salt and bauxite.
A key proposal from Digital Nexus included the establishment of a specialized insurance model designed to secure and protect foreign investments against potential risks. The plan emphasizes the critical need to engage local stakeholders directly from the Hangu and Waziristan districts to ensure community involvement and transparency.
The overall objective of the initiative is to bolster the economic relationship between China and Pakistan. Officials aim to foster a sustainable and clear investment environment, transforming the local mining sector into a regulated and profitable industry.
