Pakistan and Iran are poised to ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to streamline the process for Pakistani pilgrims traveling to Iran and Iraq, and to facilitate employment opportunities for Pakistani workers in Iran.
This was announced by Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam in Islamabad today.
The minister highlighted the government”s commitment to regularizing procedures for Pakistani pilgrims visiting religious sites in Iran and Iraq. The forthcoming MoU is expected to address key aspects of pilgrimage arrangements.
Discussions also centered on the upcoming international Quran recitation competition, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in November this year.
Ambassador Moghadam expressed condolences for the lives lost and devastation caused by recent floods in Pakistan. He reaffirmed Iran”s solidarity with Pakistan during this challenging period. The envoy also commended Pakistan”s significant contribution to combating terrorism and Islamophobia.
The meeting also addressed strategies to counter religious intolerance, terrorism, and sectarianism, while promoting interfaith harmony globally. Both nations concurred on expanding exchange programs for scholars and students of religious seminaries to foster modern education.
