Pakistan, Italy Commit to Enhanced Defense and Security Ties

ROME: Pakistan and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering defense and security cooperation, indicating a shared dedication to further strengthening bilateral ties. This was underscored during meetings held between General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan, and senior Italian officials.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions took place separately with Italy’s Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, Chief of Defence Staff General Luciano Portolano, Chief of Staff of the Italian Army General Carmine Masiello, and CEO of Leonardo, Carlo Gualdaroni. The talks focused on exploring new areas of collaboration in the defense and security sectors.

General Mirza engaged with Italian leaders on the evolving geo-strategic landscape, emphasizing mutual interests. The Italian civil and military leadership acknowledged the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and their contributions in combating terrorism.

A formal “Guard of Honour” was presented to General Mirza upon his arrival at the Italian Armed Forces Headquarters, marking the significance of the visit.
