Pakistan’s top military official, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, met with the Sultan of Brunei, vowing to significantly enhance military and defence cooperation between the two nations as they navigate a shifting global and regional security environment.
In a high-level official visit, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) held an audience with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced in a statement on Thursday. The two leaders deliberated on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming a shared desire to fortify their defence partnership.
General Mirza also engaged in separate discussions with key Bruneian officials, including Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence-II, and Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
The conversations covered the evolving security situation worldwide, with both sides emphasizing the importance of fostering closer institutional linkages and collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries.
During his tour, the CJCSC visited the Muara Naval Base and the Defence Academy of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. He delivered a lecture on ‘Pakistan’s Contributions to Regional Peace and Stability’ to an audience that included students of the Command and Staff Course, comprising officers from 19 different nations.
The Sultan and Brunei’s civil-military leadership lauded the professional excellence of the Pakistan Armed Forces, specifically commending the sacrifices made by Pakistani forces in the global fight against terrorism.
Upon his arrival at the Headquarters of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, General Mirza was formally welcomed with a Guard of Honour presented by a smartly turned-out contingent.
