Pakistan Pledges to Fortify EU Trade Partnership Through GSP Plus

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today underscored Pakistan”s dedication to strengthening its economic partnership with the European Union, highlighting the critical role of the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) in boosting bilateral trade.

The Prime Minister conveyed this commitment during a meeting with the European Union’s Ambassador, Raimundas Karoblis, who paid him a courtesy call in the capital.

During their discussion, Mr Sharif reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to augment cooperation with the EU across a wide spectrum of mutual interests, including investment, development, security, migration, and climate change, in addition to commerce.

Satisfaction was also expressed over the progress made during the 7th round of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue, which convened in Brussels last November. The Pakistani delegation at that forum was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

Ambassador Karoblis conveyed his deep appreciation for the welcome he has received since his arrival and assured the Prime Minister of his steadfast efforts to reinforce Pakistan-EU relations across all spheres. He also relayed warm wishes from the EU leadership.

The envoy confirmed that the EU would remain closely engaged with Pakistan on trade enhancement, not only through the GSP Plus framework but also via promotional activities. He noted the upcoming inaugural EU-Pakistan Business Forum, scheduled for April this year, as a key initiative in this regard.
