Pakistan has reiterated its resolute opposition to the use of chemical weapons by any party, in any location, and under all circumstances, a senior diplomat articulated at the United Nations.
The declaration was made by Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the UN, during a Security Council briefing concerning the Middle East, according to a report on Friday.
Mr Jadoon emphasised the great importance Pakistan places on the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), describing it as a fundamental pillar of the global disarmament regime.
He conveyed that the nation supports the Convention’s universal adherence and advocates for its complete, effective, and non-discriminatory implementation.
Addressing the regional context, the representative affirmed Pakistan’s strong backing for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Mr Jadoon stated that these principles are essential for achieving durable peace and stability, adding that Pakistan continues to endorse an inclusive, Syrian-owned and Syrian-led political process.
